Where Do Practitioners Access Training?


There are many forms of training and training opportunities available to literacy practitioners. Below is a list of key organizations and places to access training and examples of the types of training they offer.

Literacy Coalitions

There are four literacy coalitions in Ontario that are provincially funded and mandated to provide supports to their streams through professional development opportunities and public awareness and education. The coalitions offer face-to-face training at conferences and training events, as well as printed and online training resources. For example, the Ontario Literacy Coalition (OLC) holds a conference every three years comprised of two days of workshops and seminars. Attendance at the conference provides practitioners with an excellent opportunity to receive quality training and to network with other literacy professionals. The Francophone, Native and Deaf literacy coalitions also provide training to their memberships. For more information on the training provided by the Literacy Coalitions, check their websites often:
