ES COMPLEXITY LEVELS
Reading Text

Level 1 – The reader locates, understands and responds to simple, concrete ideas

Level 1 - Locate - These tasks require reader to match a single feature of information

Level 2 – The reader locates, understands, and begins to interpret concrete and some inferential meaning in uncomplicated texts

Level 2/3 – Cycle - These tasks require reader to match multiple features of information

Level 3 – The reader locates, understands, interpret, and makes judgments about ideas and information in more complex texts

Level 3/4 – Integrate – These tasks require reader to pull together two or more pieces of information from the text

Level 4 – The reader analyzes, synthesizes, makes reasoned judgments, and draws conclusions about ideas and information

Level 4/5 – Generate – these tasksrequire readers to process the information located in various parts of a text, and create a summarization by drawing on their knowledge

Level 5 – The reader analyzes, synthesizes, makes reasoned judgments, and draws conclusions, using a wider range of appropriate and efficient strategies

Level 5 indicates the creation of “new” or “unknown” concepts
