Learning Styles

Learning styles are the different ways that people learn. Some of us prefer to learn by hearing about something, some of us prefer to read about it on our own, and some of us need to physically do or touch something to learn about it. While most of us can learn by any of these methods, we usually a preferred way to learn. Knowing what a student’s preferred learning style is can help you choose appropriate learning activities.

There are many, many different learning styles “tests” available and the developers of these tests use a variety of terms to describe the different learning styles. Generally, however, they are grouped into the three main areas of visual, auditory and tactile (or kinesthetic).

Here are just a few web sites to get you started. To find more, simply enter “learning styles” into Google (http://www.google.ca) or your favourite search engine.
