As part of Community Literacy of Ontario's 2007 marketing survey, community literacy agencies were asked to:

“Please list the three most effective ways that you conduct outreach to ADULT LEARNERS in your community.”

The results of the survey are summarized in the pie graph below.

The largest portions of the pie are represented by:

  • Word of Mouth 19%
  • Media, which includes paid advertising in print and on radio and TV as well as Public Service Announcements 15%
  • Flyers, brochures, posters, signage 16%
  • Networking and referrals 19%

The three next sizable slices of the pie are:

  • Community events 8%
  • Referrals from Ontario Works 7%
  • Workshops and presentations 5%

In the final sliver of the pie we have:

  • Learner follow-up 2%
  • Literacy events and open houses 4%
  • Miscellaneous other methods 5%
