Brian is walking again

Photo of Brian O’Rooney

Brian, our computer technician, is in training for the Great Walk from Gold River to Tahsis on June 2nd. The walk is 63.5K. His past times have been 9:32, 9:10, 11:21 (he was injured) and 8:09. They didn't have the Great Walk last year so he walked around Lake Cowichan, 56K, in 7:04 (he placed 37th out of 389).

Brian is looking for support in the form of pledges so next time you are in be sure to sign his pledge sheet.

Note from a learner

Hi my name is Ron and I have been coming to Literacy Central VI for 8 months.

I was a little apprehensive about coming here I didn't meet new people very well but as time went on I felt very comfortable with my tutor and staff that I met here as well as other learners. Coming here has helped me to read more and increase my vocabulary. It has also helped me to take part in group discussions and feel more comfortable around other people and also more comfortable meeting new people. I would recommend Literacy Central VI to anyone who has low literacy skills. The atmosphere is very friendly and the staff and tutors are very helpful.
