Literacy: A Great Investment
Community Literacy of Ontario is a network of 105 community-based Literacy and Basic Skills agencies located in communities large and small across the province.
On behalf of our members, we are pleased to celebrate International Literacy Day, September 8, 2010, by presenting “Literacy: A Great Investment” which you can download here.
“Literacy: A Great Investment” paints a picture of literacy by:
- Sharing twenty reasons why literacy is a critical issue in Ontario
- Demonstrating the importance of investing in Literacy and Basic Skills programs
- Thanking the government for its recent two-year enhanced investment in literacy
- Showcasing the return on investment in community-based programs from this enhanced funding
- Overviewing the impact on community-based programs if this enhanced funding for literacy does not continue
Through this resource, CLO is adding its voice alongside the voices of other literacy organizations and networks that are working cooperatively to demonstrate the importance of investing in literacy. We hope that “Literacy: A Great Investment” will be a useful tool for our members, partners and governments. Please feel free to use this resource in ways that are helpful to you in your community.
Literacy: Why it Matters
CLO has also created “Literacy: Why it Matters”, which overviews the importance of literacy to Ontario and shares information on our province’s Literacy and Basic Skills program.
