Employment Ontario and the Marketing Circle

This section will explore some ways to let learners know about how our programs and services link to the wider Employment Ontario picture. It will also explore how we can market ourselves to our Employment Ontario partners.

The marketing circle can be used as a plan for your Employment Ontario marketing activities. Beginning with reflection and research, it involves six connected steps that ensure a consistent and well thought out approach to marketing. For a more thorough discussion of the marketing circle and its use within the literacy field, please see the Literacy Basics Marketing module. Marketing Ourselves - A Resource guide for Ontario's community literacy agencies is also available in downloadable print format.

Using the marketing circle will assure you greater success for all your marketing endeavours.

Who are our main target groups within Employment Ontario?

Literacy agencies have a variety of target groups. Learners (often referred to as clients in the Employment Ontario operating environment), funders, volunteers, partners, and the community at large make up the most common target groups. You may have another group of stakeholders that you consider a target market that does not fall into one of these categories. For example, perhaps you work closely with one or more employers in your community that you would like to focus on with your marketing efforts. The marketing circle and the activities we practise here will work for them too.

As we work from within Employment Ontario, the bulk of our marketing will naturally focus on two target groups: learners and partners. Our place within Employment Ontario requires us to take a new look at these target groups and how we can effectively market ourselves to them.
