PEI VOLUNTEERS FOR LITERACY

SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS

How It Works

STAFF: PEI Volunteers for Literacy has a part-time co-ordinator who recruits, screens and places the volunteers in a local school.

CONTACT TEACHERS: Designated by the school principal, this teacher is most important to ensure that the program runs smoothly and is successful. He or she is the liaison between the classroom teachers and the volunteers, sets up the schedule and is the contact for the volunteers and for the program co-ordinator. For more information see our Manual for Contact Teachers (PDF file).

CAPTAINS: Some schools have a Captain of the volunteers who helps the Contact Teacher at the school by maintaining links with the volunteers. See more about our Captains here (pictures too!), and you can also see our Captain's Manual here online in its entirety.

NEWSLETTER: Our newsletter is called The Literacy Update. We use it to share information with each other and celebrate the good work of the volunteers. See our newsletter archive here.

PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS: For a complete list of participating schools, go to our schools page.
