Fifth Annual Spelling Bee

The Spelling Bee will take place in the Community Hall at the North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre, Midland.
New this year - a category for children in Grades 1 and 2! The spelling bee is open to children in Grades 1 and 8 who reside in North Simcoe.
Entry fee is $5 and the registration deadline is Monday, January 28, 2013 at 4 pm.

Let’s Read – Story Time for Families

Join Gateway Centre for Learning at our used book store, BookMARC, 488 Dominion Avenue, Midland, for Let’s Read – Story Time for Families. Local dignitaries will be reading stories to children between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. A small snack will also be served. Thank you to the Huronia Community Foundation for supporting this project.

Tutor Training for those interested in working with children and teens

Volunteers interested in helping children or teens with their reading, writing or math skills are invited to participate in this half-day training program. The program runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. There is a $15 fee. For more information contact Donna Pitter at 705-527-1522 or dpitter@csolve.net.
Winter Blues Blaster

Our annual Winter Blues Blaster is an event not to be missed! This tropical-inspired evening will feature local band “Rock in the House” and a group adult spelling bee. Tickets are $50 and are available at 488 Dominion Avenue or by calling 705-527-1522. The social time begins at 6 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the dance starts at 8 p.m. Tropical-inspired dress is encouraged, but not necessary. New this year is an art sale of work by local artist MJ Weber who lived in Puerto Rico for a number of years. MJ is donating a portion of all sales to Gateway Centre for Learning. The Winter Blues Blaster will be held at the Native Friendship Centre at 175 Yonge Street, Midland. This event is for adults who are 19 years of age and older.

Orientation: April 2, 2013 – 6:30 to 9:30 pm.
Workshop: April 13 and 20, 2013 – 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
