FundraisingWe have an active and innovative fundraising team to help us augment our government funding base. We hold fundraising events for both publicity/outreach, and to raise money for our special needs. Some events we have done include annual Literacy Day celebrations, family literacy activities, raffles, garage sales, book sales and hockey games. We join with other groups in the community to hold some events, such as the United Way. You are welcome to join this exciting team! The Midland Area Reading Council's pilot project MARC Smart Summer Success Program received a great boost thanks to a Pie in the Face Fundraiser held on July 1,2011 at Rotary Park in Penetanguishene. Thank you to the Town of Penetanguishene for its cooperation in allowing this event, which raised more than $1,000, to take part during Canada Day celebrations. Thank you to everyone who made a donation and those who so willingly took a pie in the face in support of this initiative including MARC administrative assistant Kelly Abell, Burkevale Protestant Separate School principal Tim Mallon, vice-president of the MARC board of directors Bob Sture and Mirror editor Travis Mealing. A very special thank-you to Mayor Gerry Marshall and Mayor Gord McKay who raised a combined total of $484 in pledges. Dine at Boston Pizza and make a donation to MARCThe next time you are deciding where you would like to go out to eat, consider dining at the Midland Boston Pizza. If you write “Midland Area Reading Council” on the back of your receipt at the end of your meal and place the receipt in the box on the front counter of the restaurant Boston Pizza will donate 5% of the food total to MARC.
