Collaboration among key partners and a firm commitment to promoting education programs in the workplace have paid off for members of the New Brunswick Adult Literacy and Essential Skills Partnership.
Last April, the partnership hosted in Moncton the first ever Essential Skills in the Workplace Learning Event. The day-long activities brought together close to 100 employers, literacy and essential skills practitioners and government representatives, who had the opportunity to network and share information about their best workplace learning practices.
Silvano Tocchi, Director General of the Office of Literacy and Essential Skills (OLES), Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, delivered the day’s keynote address. An afternoon panel discussion involving experts in the field explored Creating and Building a Learning Culture.
The learning event also captured on video the five case study presentations delivered during the day. They illustrate real examples of literacy, essential skills and learning strategies that have been put to the test and implemented in New Brunswick workplaces.
The videos were created by the New Brunswick Community College (NBCC). Funding for the event was provided by the New Brunswick Department of Post-secondary Education, Training and Labour.
