Training and Certification for P-CMGP Teachers
An agency or person wishing to offer a Parent-Child Mother Goose Program® must receive training in the methods, the underlying ideas, and the materials of the program. All programs are run with two trained teachers.
LEVEL
ONE TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION Parent-Child Mother Goose Program® Certification involves a Teacher Training Workshop (Level 1) and either Apprenticeship Training or Self-Evaluation. After completing the Teacher Training Workshop and Apprenticeship Training or Self-Evaluation, as well as submission and approval of all required reports, participants will receive Parent-Child Mother Goose Program® Teacher certification.
Teacher Training Workshop Some of the specific areas covered in this workshop are: the background and philosophy of the program; how a session is organised (Infant and Two-to-Four); how to reach your target audience of participants; how to use and teach rhymes and songs; how to observe interactions and respond based on your observations; and the basics of storytelling. |
Apprenticeship Training (Option 1) Apprenticeship Training with a qualified and experienced program teacher provides the opportunity to fully develop a deep understanding of the program and the skills and repertoire required to offer a quality program. Apprenticeship Training is a minimum of 30 sessions. Organisations wishing to train teachers through apprenticeship must be in good standing with the P-CMGP, and can contact us directly to find out more about Apprenticeship Training requirements. |
Self-Evaluation Training (Option 2) If Apprenticeship Training is not available in your community, Self-Evaluation can be used to complete Level One training. Self-Evaluation is a minimum of 30 sessions of experience teaching the P-CMGP. During Self-Evaluation the teacher works with another P-CMGP teacher who may or may not also be completing her Self-Evaluation. Organisations with Self-Evaluation teachers must be in good standing with the P-CMGP, and can check our website or contact us directly to find out more about Self-Evaluation requirements. The P-CMGP office is available to answer any questions or concerns as Self-Evaluation teachers work at gaining experience and building program repertoire. |
ADVANCED
LEVEL TWO TRAINING To maintain and renew Parent-Child Mother Goose Program® certification, the P-CMGP recommends participation in a Level Two training workshop every two years. Other training opportunities such as gatherings and some conference sessions are also recommended.
-
Building on Your Experience This one-day workshop for individuals with some experience teaching in a P-CMGP will: refresh and revitalise the teaching of and approach to using rhymes and songs in the P-CMGP; provide program teachers with new material to use; reconnect teachers with the P-CMGP Network; respond to program teachers’ joys and challenges; and share best practices.
-
Storytelling
in the Parent-Child Mother Goose Program® This one-day workshop for individuals with some experience teaching in a P-CMGP will inspire participants to learn and tell stories; give program teachers practice in storytelling; build skills and confidence; and provide participants with stories they can use in the program. The emphasis in this workshop is on telling stories in the P-CMG Infant Program.
