The National Adult Literacy Database (NALD) is a proud supporter of family literacy in all its forms.
Every year since 1999, on January 27, Family Literacy Day (FLD) is celebrated in communities throughout Canada with activities related to reading, writing and math. The NALD website has a section dedicated to FLD. This page has been recently updated and now contains reading suggestions from the NALD library for families.
You are invited to let us know about activities that you are planning or that you know about, surrounding Family Literacy Day.
“The first and best teachers of children are parents,” says Katherine d’Entremont, CEO of NALD. “Family literacy is what parents and children do independently and collectively to build the literacy skills of each family member. It occurs in everyday life, in both the home and the community, where literacy skills are used by children, their friends, parents and extended family members.”
NALD is happy to assist ABC Life Literacy Canada, the founder of Family Literacy Day, in creating awareness of the importance of learning and reading together as a family. NALD is also happy to promote your news on its website.
If you have any questions on the services offered by NALD, please do not hesitate to contact us. To send events, you can send an email to events@nald.ca.
