Training sessions being held for new adult reading classroom resource

readforward logo

Read Forward is a new adult reading resource developed by the Centre for Foundational Learning at Bow Valley College in Calgary, Alberta.

Funded by the Office of Literacy and Essential Skills, the resource is an easy-to-use, pencil and paper tool that can complement any reading or language course in a variety of educational programs – including literacy, upgrading, GED, apprenticeship, workplace and college.

The resource contains a series of tests designed both to gauge learners’ current reading ability with prose and documents, as well as to help learners increase their skills. Tests are referenced to levels of the International Adult Literacy Survey (IALS, from mid-Level 1 to low-Level 3). The resource also comes with answer keys, results feedback forms, locator tests and a user guide.

Web-based training opportunities are available free of charge over the next several weeks, on the following dates (note: times are in Mountain Standard Time):

  • Tuesday, March 29: 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm
  • Thursday, March 31: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
  • Tuesday, April 5: 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
  • Wednesday, April 6: 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm

Interested parties can register for any session that fits their schedule. Training will take place over Adobe Connect, and should not require downloading any computer software.  In addition, it is possible for multiple registrants to participate over the same computer. Participants will receive a complimentary copy of the resource.

To register for a session, please email readforward@bowvalleycollege.ca, giving your contact information and indicating which session you would like to attend.
