Laubach Literacy New Brunswick (LLNB) will host its 2011 provincial conference June 10-12 in Sackville, N.B.
The spring conference will take place at Mount Allison University, and the theme, Celebrating Learning, adopted in 2009, will be the biennial event’s recurring theme. This conference serves as a celebration of learning and training development for teachers, tutors, and learners engaged in adult literacy services. This year’s event is hosted by the Moncton Regional Learning Council Inc.
For participants arriving on Friday evening, there will be an informal Meet and Greet set up on campus. The conference sign-in desk will open at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday (with coffee and treats nearby) to distribute conference packets to those pre-registered for the event. Saturday’s agenda includes a keynote speaker address, training workshops, and a celebration evening banquet.
Some of the training workshops available to literacy practitioners include:
Students will engage in fun writing activities at the Writing Out Loud workshop on Saturday morning. Learning enrichment opportunities for learners are planned for Saturday afternoon through local area site visits (locations to be announced).
Saturday evening, everyone is invited to attend a celebration banquet. (Tickets must be purchased in advance.)
On Sunday, there will be a plenary session on developing ideas for student recruitment and retention strategies. The weekend conference will close with the 10:30 a.m. brunch and special prize draws for plenary session participants.
Registration packets will be sent out to literacy councils and contacts across the province during the month of April. The registration packet will include a weekend schedule, registration forms for all events, travel directions to the campus, and accommodation prices for on-site rooms for Friday and/or Saturday night(s) that can be reserved through Mount Allison Conference Services staff at 364-2247.
