NALD invites you to share activities, news releases for International Literacy Day

The National Adult Literacy Database (NALD) is proud to contribute to the efforts of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to promote International Literacy Day. We invite you to send us information about events you may be hosting in your community or projects you may be working on to mark the occasion on or around September 8, 2012.

International Literacy Day ILD) is observed annually around the world. This year marks 46 years of the celebration and the theme is “Literacy and Peace.”

NALD has created a special section on its website where ILD activities and news releases are featured prominently.  The NALD International Literacy Day web section is accessible through our front page highlight box.

“With September being the beginning of the school year and September 8 being International Literacy Day, what better time to reflect on the fact that literacy is the backbone of our daily life,” says Bill Stirling, CEO of NALD.

“The themes used during the United Nations Literacy Decade (2003 – 2012) have emphasized that fact well - gender issues, sustainable development, health, empowerment and peace. In Canada, the improvement of literacy and essential skills is an important goal for the workplace and a means to both address skill shortages and boost safety and productivity.”

NALD will be pleased to post your news and events as soon as possible on the International Literacy Day page. The page contains highlights, chronology, news releases and events being held at the international, national and provincial/territorial levels.

Send your event to events@nald.ca and your news release to contactnald@nald.ca. Please include a brief description of your event or project, and include the date, time and location in addition to the name, phone number and email address of a contact person for your organization.
