International Literacy Day Reading Contest 2010 in Alberta – Summary of results

Seven communities participated in the International Literacy Day Reading Results for Alberta: Henday Association - County of Red Deer, Vermillion, Slave Lake, Parkland Literacy Project, Brooks, Pincher Creek, and Taber.

Vermillion was third with 59,490 minutes.
Brooks was second with 60,050 minutes.
Taber recorded 124,034 minutes.

For the winning community, their secret to getting so many people to participate was advertising at one of the local grocery stores and handing out popcorn the day before. The other factor may be that they have been running a reading contest for four years in their community, starting back to when Fox Creek used to do the challenge.

They hope to run this challenge again next year and that more projects will participate. Hopefully, people can gear up for it if they get a reminder in June.

Thanks to literacy Alberta for offering a prize.
