Managing media: Back-to-school tips for parents

CareerBuilder.ca study finds many workers feeling bullied in the workplace

Learning Disabilities Association of Canada is closing its doors (PDF)

LDAC has announced that effective August 31, 2012, its office will begin the process of closing its doors. Operations are scheduled to officially shut down on March 31, 2013, when its lease expires and existing federal government funding ceases.

Literacy programs from Bhutan, Indonesia, Colombia and Rwanda are the winners of UNESCO’s literacy prizes for 2012. Director-General of UNESCO Irina Bokova has announced the laureates upon the recommendation of an international jury. The awards will be presented at a ceremony to be held on September 6, as part of celebrations for International Literacy Day September 8.

It's been summer of literacy and learning on PEI

This summer 23 tutors are tutoring 700 students in one-on-one session across the Island from Tignish to Souris. They are working mostly in libraries, but some tutors are in schools and community centres, says the PEI Literacy Alliance, host of the Summer Tutoring Program for Kids.

Work ethic ingrained at an early age and often reflects home life: columnist

David Bednar, general manager of the CNE for the past 14 years, says the main change he’s seen in the hundreds of students he hires every year is that most kids today can’t seem to get earbuds out of their ears. “Take a young person today who’s never had a job and they literally don’t get it,” Bednar says. “They say, ‘I live my life on the phone, texting.’ They want to do that while they work.”
