A new study says most organizations are poorly prepared to usher in a new generation of leaders as the silver tsunami of baby boomers heads for retirement. About 41% of the 100 global executives surveyed by Odgers Berndtson said their organizations are ready for the cultural changes that will take place as current leaders are replaced by employees from Generation X and Y.

Nearly half of the 46 mid-sized Canadian cities covered in The Conference Board of Canada's first Mid-Sized Cities Outlook 2013 have not recovered all the jobs lost during the recession, based on historical economic data between 2005 and 2012.

National recruitment campaign to attract 25,000 new piping trade members

The recruitment push is primarily in response to a jump in large-scale infrastructure projects in the Western provinces, but there is an anticipated increase in work in areas including the Maritimes, Ontario and Quebec as major infrastructure projects begin.

National Reading Week is improving student literacy in Jamaica

One of the organizers of Reading Week in Jamaica, Yvette Rodney, said socioeconomic conditions are a major factor in promoting reading. "We hope to have the children more interested in reading because most, if not all of them, are from the inner city and they don't really have the books," she said. "We hope to pique their interests to get them excited about reading."

GED test will see big changes beginning in January 2014

Beginning in January 2014, the GED® test will move from a paper-based to a computer-based format, which simply means that you will complete the test using a computer and not on paper. The Ontario government's announcement of a new Youth Jobs Strategy is being applauded by Ontario's colleges. Ottawa announces reforms to Temporary Foreign Worker Program
