Lifelong learning creates change in the lives of learners, their families and the people whose lives are touched by the learners’ news skills and training, says Helen Wussow, the dean of Lifelong Learning which houses Continuing Studies at Simon Fraser University.

“Canada’s social and economic future lies in the continued educational growth of its citizens,” said Andrew Parkin, director general of CMEC. “Whether it is learning a new language, improving our literacy, or acquiring the skills needed for a new career, adult learning offers us the chance to grow as individuals and in doing so create positive change in our homes, communities and country.”

 In 2010 and 2011, the PEI Literacy Alliance partnered with Holland College to host an afternoon of entertainment for Holland College students involved in the level and GED courses. 

Literacy BC is celebrating the achievements of Community Adult Literacy Programs which offer a unique adult learning service to thousands of British Columbians each year.

The TDSB Adult ESL Program is hosting a variety of activities this week and the public is invited to attend.

Martine Coulombe, New Brunswick’s minister of Post-secondary Education, Training and Labour, has issued a statement in recognition of International Adult Learners’ Week.

About 50 people attended the Never Ending Learning Conference Saturday in northeast Edmonton, an event organized by adult literacy students with The Learning Centre Literacy Association.

The Northwest Territories Literacy Council is grateful to the adult learners who submitted their stories for publication online.

This year, during IALW, the Ontario Literacy Coalition will focus particular attention on access, participation and inclusion, as well as on innovative policies to help improve adult learning programs to meet everyone’s needs.

April 2–9 is International Adult Learners’ Week in Canada. Congratulations to the 640 adult education students in RETSD who know the value of lifelong learning and who understand how learning can be a powerful instrument of change in their lives.

In celebration of International Adult Learners’ Week happening across Canada April 2-9, ABC Life Literacy Canada will travel to Edmonton March 30-April 1 as part of a media and PR Tour.

Whether at work, in your community or with your family at home, mark IALW 2011 (April 2-9) in your calendar and participate. Spreading the word about the importance of lifelong learning contributes to more opportunities for all.

International Adult Learners’ Week (IALW), an initiative that celebrates adult learners and the joy of lifelong learning, will be observed in Canada from April 2 to 9, 2011.

Adult learners from across the province are invited to share with the coalition what lifelong learning means to them and to the future of New Brunswick.
