The Community Learning Network and Literacy Alberta are pleased to bring you the Literacy & Learning Symposium 2011. This province-wide professional development symposium focuses on literacy and lifelong learning for adults, as tools for positive change.

In 2011 IRCOM will be partnering with Urban Circle Training Centre for a series of cross cultural learning days. 

The LEARN program has successfully assisted thousands of adult learners looking to improve their literacy skills. It allows Canadian adults to easily access information about local literacy organizations and help them move forward in finding an appropriate learning program.

Training sessions will be held to introduce Read Forward, a new adult reading resource developed by the Centre for Foundational Learning at Bow Valley College in Calgary.

With March being Fraud Prevention Month in Canada, it’s a good time to go over some of the precautions we should take when posting personal information online, even when it’s not financial data.

The National Adult Literacy Database (NALD) supports the activities of its partners by promoting national and provincial/territorial events in the fields of adult literacy and education, family literacy, workplace learning and essential skills. One of these key occasions is International Adult Learners’ Week (IALW) being observed this year from April 2 to 9.

This is a teaching and learning package designed to help adult learners increase their literacy and essential skills in order to make easier transitions to a new workforce or adapt to changing technology on the job.

Deadline to apply : March 21, 2011 -  Literacy Works is looking for a literacy instructor to deliver literacy programs to adult learners which will meet their individual needs.

The highly successful Technical Vocation Initiative will be invigorated with over $6.4 million in new funding to help give students the tools and skills they need to meet the growing demand for workers who possess technical vocational skills, Premier Greg Selinger has announced.

Nominations for the Manitoba 2011 Council of the Federation Literacy Award, recognizing outstanding achievements in adult literacy, will be accepted until May 20.

A national campaign aimed at enriching volunteer experiences for Canadians and strengthening the volunteer sector has been launched by Volunteer Canada, the voice of volunteerism in Canada, and Manulife Financial, whose signature cause is to encourage volunteerism nationwide.
