National Adult Literacy Database

This study kit includes literacy activities that can be used with adult learners during an election period. The focus is on helping learners make informed decisions about the election and, at the same time, develop their vocabulary and their understanding of elections and the democratic process.  

The Ontario Literacy Coalition (OLC) applauds the Ontario government's decision to invest $44 million over the next three years in literacy and basic skills. OLC's President and Chair, Trudy Lothian, says, "It is wonderful that Finance Minister Dwight Duncan and this government is investing in adult literacy and essential skills.

The LEARN program has successfully assisted thousands of adult learners looking to improve their literacy skills. It allows Canadian adults to easily access information about local literacy organizations and help them move forward in finding an appropriate learning program.

Training sessions will be held to introduce Read Forward, a new adult reading resource developed by the Centre for Foundational Learning at Bow Valley College in Calgary.

The National Adult Literacy Database (NALD) supports the activities of its partners by promoting national and provincial/territorial events in the fields of adult literacy and education, family literacy, workplace learning and essential skills. Funded by the Government of Canada and the Northwest Territories Department of Education, Culture and Employment, the tool is designed to help northerners learn what it takes to succeed in various jobs.
