The Statistics Canada 2011 Census Teacher's Kit is provided free of charge, for use in elementary, intermediate and secondary schools, as well as for adult education classes across the country. Students play important roles as future respondents to the census and translators to parents whose language skills are not strong in either of Canada's official languages.
University of Ottawa to host BDC’s 10th E-Spirit National Gathering

OTTAWA, April 27 /CNW Telbec/ - More than 190 enterprising Aboriginal youths from across Canada will visit the University of Ottawa next month to attend the tenth edition of the E-Spirit National Aboriginal Youth Business Plan Competition gathering. The E-Spirit competition is organized by the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC).

The Saskatchewan Aboriginal Literacy Network (SALN) will host the fourth Aboriginal Literacy Gathering, a meeting of learners, practitioners and leaders in Aboriginal literacy, May 25-27 in Manitou Beach.
Titled Literacy: An Aboriginal Cultural Tradition, the Gathering will feature well-known author Richard Van Camp as the keynote speaker and Robert Doucette, president of Métis Nation - Saskatchewan, as the closing speaker.

Thomas King and Tomson Highway, acclaimed Canadian Aboriginal authors, will address the Cultivating Connections National Family Literacy Conference being presented by the Centre for Family Literacy in Edmonton, Alberta, July 15-17, 2010.
Thomas King’s topic is “Stories Do Create a World” and Tomson Highway will speak on “How Literacy Can Make for a Healthy, Functional Family.”

The Task Force on Financial Literacy begins its cross-Canada public consultations today in Vancouver, British Columbia and simultaneously in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. World gets window to Saskatchewan with new website launch

In an effort to be more welcoming to newcomers, the government today launched an innovative website that will give prospective residents the information they need to move to Saskatchewan. Also included is an online application feature for the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) - the first of its kind in Canada.
Saskatchewan Aboriginal Literacy Awards 2010 – Nomination Deadline Extended to April 30, 2010

The deadline for nominations for the Saskatchewan Aboriginal Literacy Awards has been extended to Friday, April 30 at 5 p.m. These awards honour and recognize individual and organizational effort in the development, enhancement, and/or promotion of Aboriginal literacy in Saskatchewan. Recipients will be recognized in each of the following categories: Elder, Practitioner, Learner, and Organization/Business. Nominations are accepted, accompanied by two letters of support.
