TESL Canada invites you to submit a proposal to present at the TESL Canada 2012 conference October 11-13, 2012.  The conference will be held at Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops, British Columbia. The theme for the conference, TESL Interiors: Landscapes of Literacies and Language, is one reflective of the multiple dimensions of communication and language education.  Presentations can cover any of the diverse areas of inquiry related to TEAL and Teacher Education.

Nova Scotia is amending the Libraries Act to reflect the move of the Nova Scotia Provincial Library to the Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage announced in January. DataAngel Policy Research has produced a report card that ranks every Federal Electoral District in Canada on several dimensions of literacy. Its hope is that these data will help Members of Parliament and voters think about what they might do to address Canada’s literacy challenge.

“Although the economic downturn may have contributed to lower learning and development budgets in 2010, the decline in spending is indicative of an ongoing pattern,” said Carrie Lavis, senior research associate with The Conference Board of Canada.

The committee considered a string of suggestions from individual members of the newly appointed Toronto Public Library Board, including shutting 38 of Toronto’s 98 branches, selling the historic Yorkville branch and reducing opening hours.
