Statistics Canada report on employment, earnings and hours

The Survey of Employment, Payrolls and Hours (SEPH) is a business census of non-farm payroll employees. Its key objective is to provide a monthly portrait of the level of earnings, the number of jobs and hours worked by detailed industry at the national, provincial and territorial levels.

Labour Force Survey revised for 2011

Starting with today's release, all labour force estimates are now based on the 2006 Census population counts rather than the 2001 Census. With this revision, the total Canadian population has been revised downward 0.3 per cent, which is approximately half the size of the previous revision in 2005.

Several new themes emerged from the 2010 institute, specifically around questions of embedded teaching and learning and the qualifications and professionalism of workplace essential skills providers. The 2011 institute, June 27-29 in Montreal, will focus on these, as well as on the continuing preoccupation of engaging employers and learners.

In a worrying development for equal employment opportunities across the globe, new research commissioned by flexible workspace solutions provider Regus reveals that only 31 per cent of Canadian firms declare they plan to hire more working mothers as compared to 41 per cent a year ago. Globally, 36 per cent of companies plan to hire working mothers in 2011.
