In an effort to be more welcoming to newcomers, the government today launched an innovative website that will give prospective residents the information they need to move to Saskatchewan. Also included is an online application feature for the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) - the first of its kind in Canada.

The availability of new on-line alternate format materials will greatly assist students with special needs and offer them access to the same resources as their peers. The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Education, provided details on the new addition to the department’s website today.

With First Nations representing an ever-increasing portion of the Canadian population, Northern Ontario universities are using a number of ways to engage and accommodate them.

EDMONTON — The local hard-of-hearing community is worried they will be cut out of the conversation again if NAIT cancels the only public program in Canada training people to transcribe meetings in real time.

The deadline for nominations for the Saskatchewan Aboriginal Literacy Awards has been extended to Friday, April 30 at 5 p.m. These awards honour and recognize individual and organizational effort in the development, enhancement, and/or promotion of Aboriginal literacy in Saskatchewan. Recipients will be recognized in each of the following categories: Elder, Practitioner, Learner, and Organization/Business. Nominations are accepted, accompanied by two letters of support.

AlphaPlus Centre's Web Index received a makeover and is now fully available through Delicious, a social bookmarking tool that allows users to access, bookmark and organize their favourite websites directly online.

The next World Congress will be July 12-15, 2010, in Auckland, New Zealand, where this storied gem in the Pacific is certain to energize and inspire. The theme for the conference will be “Leading & Learning in Literacy.” Additional details will be posted as they are available.
