The new Financial Literacy Fund aligns with the priorities of ALL Aboard, Manitoba’s poverty reduction and social inclusion strategy. It also complements the recommendations made recently by Canada’s Task Force on Financial Literacy for “urgent action” to strengthen Canadians’ financial literacy.

The Frye Festival, Atlantic Canada’s largest literary event, unveiled its spectacular line-up for the 2011 edition, which will be held from April 25 to May 1 in Moncton, N.B. Education leaders launched I Love to Read Month in Winnipeg but it was no ordinary guest reading. Education Minister Nancy Allan, the Manitoba Teachers’ Society President Pat Isaak and Winnipeg School Division Board Chair Suzanne Hrynyk read to students from a book loaded onto the classroom’s SmartBoard.

The Financial Basics workshop offers participants a hands-on learning experience on topics of vital importance to responsible management of personal finances and teaches them money management skills for life.

Employers will be required to ensure that workplaces are free of harassment by developing and implementing policies to prevent and address harassment if it occurs.

This year’s institute will focus on Workplace Literacy and Essential Skills: Embedding Practice, Preparing Providers, themes that emerged from the 2010 event. It will also continue to explore the most effective ways of engaging employers and learners.

The Literacy and Essential Skills (LES) Coordinator position is a new full-time job position within Literacy Partners of Manitoba (LPM) reporting to and working with the Executive Director. The deadline to apply is February 11, 2011.
