Students at Eastern Shore District High School in Nova Scotia will now have more learning opportunities through skilled trades education to help prepare them for good jobs. Eastern Shore MLA Sid Prest, on behalf of Education Minister Ramona Jennex, has officially opened the school's skilled trades centre as part of the Kids and Learning First education plan.

"This online tool is one of many ways in which we are engaging with parents about their child’s education,” said Thomas Lukaszuk, Alberta minister of education. “In addition to course and subject matter, parents can also use the tool to explore online learning materials to help their child with their studies.”

International Women's Day - March 8 - A Canadian perspective

The PEI Literacy Alliance has released the results of an environmental scan of literacy and essential skills programs on PEI. “Affordable and accessible adult programs are needed to address the training needs of Islanders," says Catherine O’Bryan, executive director. “This scan shows us there are some positive practices taking place and what else can be done.”

Aboriginal schooling in North gets $27-million boost

Programs are expected to begin this year at Aurora College, Yukon College and Nunavut Arctic College. The money will be used to deliver courses online, increase the use of aboriginal language in courses, and roll out a high school diploma that would be recognized by universities and colleges across the country.

The Canadian Education Statistics Council (CESC), a partnership between the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC) and Statistics Canada, has just published a new fact sheet on educational attainment and employment rates at the pan-Canadian and provincial and territorial levels. The fact sheet also includes data for 12 OECD countries that are of key comparative interest for Canada.
