Canadians, particularly those of conservative persuasion, love to compare Canada with the United States, which has a lot to learn in the key area of K-12 education. As the United States struggles with mounting deficits and debt, Americans would be well served to look north if they want to raise student performance while saving money. FREDERICTON, NB - The winner of NALD's first Innovative Technology Award has taught over 8,500 undergraduate and graduate university students during the course of his 33-year teaching career at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He also works with adult learners in St. John's who need help preparing for the workforce. What is not at first apparent to those with whom he comes in contact is his own unique perspective on learning. Dr. Marc Glassman has a learning disability.

Can learners improve their essential skills by studying online? A pilot test running that has been running from February to May 2010 with 240 students will determine the effectiveness of online learning using sector-specific, workplace-related materials and technological supports for disadvantaged learners. A second test will be conducted in the fall of 2010.
