The Prince Albert Literacy Network's Child Care Worker Preparation for Certification Program has won the 2012 Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life Literacy Innovation Award. The program prepares First Nations, Métis and unemployed learners with lower levels of literacy to pursue child care careers.

With support from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Legacy of Hope Foundation, the Residential Schools curriculum is now a key section of the Northwest Territories Northern Studies course and the Nunavut Social Studies course. The curriculum was piloted in March of 2012 with a select number of schools across the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

ABC Life Literacy Canada has announced the 2012 Life Literacy Award winners in recognition of outstanding achievement in adult literacy and essential skills. Awards were presented in the categories of community literacy, workplace education, journalism and corporate excellence.

A new report notes that young Canadians are among the best educated in the world, knowledgeable about technology, connected to social networks and animated by global issues, but there’s a gap between those who thrive and others left behind.

The five finalists were chosen by the award-winning, three-member jury empaneled for the 2012 prize: Irish author and screenwriter Roddy Doyle; Canadian publisher, writer and essayist Anna Porter; and American author and satirist Gary Shteyngart. This is the 19th year of the prize.

The Canadian Library Association is pleased to announce that October has been designated as Canadian Library Month. The idea for a month dedicated to library and information services in Canada was developed by library partners from across the country to help raise public awareness of the valuable role that libraries play in the lives of Canadians.

The New Brunswick learning event captured on video the five case study presentations delivered during the day. They illustrate real examples of literacy, essential skills and learning strategies that have been put to the test and implemented in New Brunswick workplaces.

AlphaPlus's most recent publication explores the perceptions and experiences of 10 adult learners, who are non-users or limited users of digital media, in their use of digital media to create digital texts. The authors explored the adult learners' attitudes and experiences relating to digital media, in order to understand the challenges and barriers they face.

High school students in every region of Nova Scotia now have access to a challenging program that helps prepare them for good jobs and citizenship.
