The National Adult Literacy Database (NALD) Inc. is a Canadian non-profit, registered charity. We are the lead network that Canadians rely on to connect them with information, tools, resources, knowledge and expertise to enhance life-long and life-wide learning.
NALD uses the Internet and the World Wide Web as a platform from which to:
NALD hosts websites for non-profit literacy and essential skills organizations in Canada at the national, provincial and local levels. This network has grown to over 140 organizations which, through NALD's services, are connected and are better able to collaborate and form partnerships.
NALD assists users who submit requests for information via email or the toll-free phone line.
NALD has created a library of resources by digitizing and making available on the Internet many of the excellent resources that have been created by Canadians for the Canadian literacy community. NALD makes valuable literacy and essential skills resources available to everyone with access to the Internet.
NALD posts different types of publications, including reports, newsletters, learning materials and research materials, as PDF documents in both official languages. Files created by users are also made available in audio or video format.
NALD organizes and posts many of the educational resources on the Internet for the purpose of making them available to practitioners who may not have time to search for useful resources. NALD encourages its users to submit their suggestions for resources they would like to see on www.nald.ca.
NALD harnesses the expertise developed over the years to the support of the literacy community. With NALD providing the technology for many projects, project leaders save time and avoid the learning curve often experienced while becoming adept at using new software.
NALD has created online library catalogues for several provincial organizations including Literacy BC, Literacy Partners of Manitoba and The Centre for Literacy.
NALD provides support and hosts listserv email discussions for individual organizations. It also provides numerous clients with interactive forums, extra email accounts for those who already have an Internet provider, and Web analysis software to track user statistics on clients’ websites.
