Story of the Week: June 07, 1999 - Table of Contents

Victoria READ Society was founded as a non-profit organization in October of 1976. Their mission is 'To help students of all ages in the Greater Victoria area learn basic academic skills through small classes, individualized help and a supportive, caring environment.' They believe that everyone has the basic right to language skills, and their mandate is to provide support to children and adults, and to ensure that everyone recognizes that literacy and language are essential to a healthy community.

For the past 12 years the Adult Basic Skills program at Victoria READ has helped participants learn to learn and develop their self-esteem and confidence by improving their reading, writing and math skills. Students in this full-time five month program upgrade their basic skills in small classes so they can go on to further training or employment.

This week 10 students read their stories on-line.
