Project Literacy

by Linda Brown

I have found Project Literacy to be very helpful and very worthwhile program to people who have certain kinds of disability no matter what type of school you had as child.

They help people who are adults that have a learning disability and have been out of the school system for a very long time.

They set them up with a tutor who helps them with the learner on things they want to work on.

Some of the things could be math or reading or anything the leaner would like help with.

Also Project Literacy has a library where people can borrow books and also work on computers.

For tutors working with learners, they have workshops where they can learn more information so they can help their learners better.

I find working with my tutor we have become friends and we are always learning from each other.

Also they are setting up a computer lab for the learners so they can familiarize themselves with getting on the web and word processing. If Project Literacy gets enough computers they will loan them out so the learners will be able to also have one at home to use and they will be able to learn about the web at home with have connections to hook-up to the Internet.

Also at Project Literacy we have learner's meeting where we get together and discuss what we would like to do, We are getting a grant from the government and we are putting on a workshop next year where we will be learning how to use the metric system and also more on the computers so it should be a very worthwhile workshop.

I hope somebody also can get help from Project Literacy like I was able to and I hope I have helped someone else along the way be able to go to their office and maybe talk to the staff and be able to get a tutor just like I did I would be willing to go with them and show them where the office is and also give them the phone number.
