The following poem was written by Bill Stephenson, from Hamilton, Ontario. Bill's hobbies and interest are hiking, camping, fishing and travelling. He likes to be Santa Claus for 6-7 weeks at the end of the year. He has been playing the jolly old man for 30 years. Bill started writing poems about a year ago. He attends the Literacy and Basic Skills program at Mohawk College when he's not playing Santa Claus. When he started L.B.S. in 1975, he couldn't read or write at all. He has learned a lot in the last 25 years.
Reach for me and I'll be there.
Believe in me and I will care
enough to listen to each word
you trust for me to hear.
Reach for me and I'll be there.
Care for me and I will share
your every tear and sorrow,
and be to you again tomorrow
a steadfast friend and loyal love.
With truth and smiles
and tender touch,
I'll share with you
my lasting gentle strength;
so reach for me and I'll be there.
