This story was written by Shelley Matchett, from Saint John, New Brunswick. Shelley is 39 years old and a mother of four children. She is currently living in Saint John but is formerly from the Miramichi. She attends Coverdale Centre CASP in Saint John. Coverdale Centre is a women's centre that offers programs, including CASP, Community Academic Services Program, for women in the community.
Although Shelley graduated from high school, she would like to go to college. In order for her to do this, she has to take upgrading in math, science, and English. Her goal is to work with youth who are addicted to drugs and to help them get off the streets. Spending time with friends, writing, reading, drawing, painting, horseback riding, swimming, and walking are all important to Shelley. She also volunteers for Coverdale during the mornings and attends CASP in the afternoons.
Everything lay in stillness, not a sound could be heard. They were waiting, knowing that something cold and slow-moving was going to come. The water was on alert to warn the others when the "Thing" came around. Water would be the first to know before Land could see or feel it. No one dared to talk to each other for fear that it may hear them.
Land was only inches away from Water. They could only whisper, not daring any loud sounds. Water felt the wind picking up speed and told Land that Wind was getting stronger. They grew tense, and then it came. Slowly - Creeping - Not on Water but Land got it first.
The creeping mist overpowered Land. Land couldn't say anything to Water. Mist sprung on Water, a defenseless rabbit in a trap. Water didn't dare move in fear that it might make Mist upset. Water was powerless as Mist danced on top of its waves.
Land and Water waited for the one person that could defeat the creeping mist and slowly, like Mist, it came. This time Land and Water were not scared, but Mist was. The closer the stranger came, the more nervous Mist grew. Worse than that, Mist slowly disappeared as the Stranger arrived.
Mist fought to keep control, but it was a losing battle. Then without any warning Mist was gone. The SUN came OUT!
