Ways to Practice Being a Chef!

by Elizabeth M.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a chef. Some of the ways I practice is by cooking and experimenting with new recipes for myself, my boyfriend, Tim, and my literacy class!

When I’m cooking for myself I like to try new recipes involving different ingredients to determine whether I like them or not. Sometimes I change the format of the recipes to make the food taste better or just to try something different. It’s only me, so it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t work out.

When I cook for my boyfriend, he will make comments on how the food tastes and if he likes it or not. My boyfriend is also a very good cook and sometimes we compare recipes to see who has the best one! It is also fun to go to a restaurant and discuss how we can make similar dishes at home.

For Thanksgiving, I taught my class how to make pumpkin soup. First, I demonstrated how to cut the pumpkin and get the pulp out. We then took the cut up pumpkin and put it in a pot with sugar and spices. When this was cooked, I then put it into a blender and pureed it. It was fun spooning our soup into bowls drizzled with cream. Yum yum!

With my interest in cooking and becoming a chef, I love sharing my passion with others. My career goal is to become the best chef in the world!!! In the meantime, I’ll continue experimenting, but don’t ask my for my secret recipes!!! You won’t get them from me!!
