February 24 and March 3, 2003

This week, we are launching seven stories written by students from NorQuest College in Edmonton, Alberta. You can read some of the stories as well as hear them.
NorQuest College has approximately 10,000 students enrolled in upgrading, ESL and skills training programs. The main campus is in downtown Edmonton and the ESL campus is in the West End of the city. There are satellite sites around northern Alberta. We are very proud of the extra learning support we are able to give to students with learning disabilities and physical challenges. NorQuest won the City of Edmonton Mayor's Award for Accessible Architecture, 2001. Several of the students whose stories you will see receive support from Learning Support Services at NorQuest.
This story is written by Kien Tran. Kien is a student in the Adult Basic Education program. Kien is from Vietnam and has lived in Canada for fifteen years. He is single and likes to play bingo. He also likes to watch Vietnamese and English movies that are fun, exciting and scary.

My comfort food is fried noodles with chopped beef in it. I do not know how to make it, but my sister makes it for me. When I get home, I scoop it onto my plate and put the sauce on it and a little bit of hot pepper. It tastes so delicious, and it is so yummy, and it makes me so hungry. I love to eat it so much because it is something you cannot cook or do not have time to eat in school. You have to heat it up, and you do not want to take it to school in a bag. The sauce will spill and smell bad in school, and your breath will also smell, so it is no good to bring to school for lunch. Even though I love it, I still have to wait until I go home to have it. No noodles in school!
