This poem was written by Jackie Saunders from Calgary, Alberta. Jackie has been actively involved with the John Howard Society Literacy Program for several years. During this time she has made a tremendous contribution, especially through their recent Participatory Action Research Project. She continues to be a delightful participant in their Literacy and Upgrading Program. Jackie began writing poems at age 13, and has continued to like to write when given the opportunity. When not spending quality time with her daughter, Diamond, or working on her studies, Jackie enjoys horseback riding, rollerskating, swimming, and watching movies.

Diamond you are the most beautiful
diamond I've ever seen
Each day with you is like
a wonderful dream.
I've seen you grow,
Since that first New Year's Eve.
Have I told you
You are my everything.
Soon you'll be "ten"
and then in your teens.
What will I do when you turn sixteen.
Diamond, you are my daughter,
Just want you to know
You are my baby,
And Im loving you so.
