Story of the Week

June 4, 2001

Photo of Rod Robinson

On this week, we launched eleven stories written by students from The Victoria READ Society. You can read their stories as well as hear them.

Rod Robinson was born Jan. 16, 1970. He has one brother who lives in Edmonton. They both like the same music except his brother likes Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and Blues. They are also different with sports. His brother likes hockey, and Rod likes football, baseball and soccer. Rod's favorite movies are Steven King. The one movie he will never watch is Old Yellar. It's because he had a German Shepherd wolf cross that he had to get put down when he moved to Edmonton.

Skip and Red

by Rod Robinson

I remember when I got my dog; he was so cute when I first got him. He was black and white with droopy ears. The lady I worked for had an American Pit bull; his name was Pooker. My dog, Skip, thought that Pooker was his dad , but Skip was a Shepherd-wolf cross.

One day Skip was in the middle of the parking lot and Pooker came running out of the barn and ran over Skip. You could see Skip rolling under Pooker's body. It was so funny, and my brother and I started to laugh.

The older Skip got the more he protected me and my family and friends. He was about six years old when he got sick with a rare form of skin cancer, so I had to put him to sleep. Then I moved to Edmonton. I miss him a lot.

But my friend Bill has a Rottweiler named Red and he acts like my dog Skip. It is like Red has the spirit and soul of my dog Skip. My friend, Bill, said that Red is now mine, but Red will stay with him because Bill has a thousand acres of property around Hundred Mile House. Besides this way Red will be with his mom and dad and my Godson Bill Jr. I asked Bill Jr. to take care of him when I'm not around and he said, "I will ''. The weird thing is I'll call Red, Skip once in awhile and Red will look at me and howl like Skip always did when I called him.
