This week, we are launching 3 stories written by learners from the Saint John Learning Exchange, from Saint John, New Brunswick. As a special event you can read their stories as well as hear them. The Saint John Learning Exchange is a not-for-profit literacy education training centre dedicated to the empowerment of individuals through education, upgrading, training and employment preparation programmes.
This is my first time talking to the public and I have my animator, Sarah Burns to thank. I'm a single mother of two. I never finished high school, because I got pregnant for my first child. I tried to go back for upgrading, but I was pregnant for my second and there were problems; therefore I left again. I decided to come back because I was tired of not being able to get work. I feel that everything is going well. I hope very much to get my GED. I enjoy being in school. My kids are getting use to the routine of not being with me all the time, so once I get my GED and get a job it won't be that hard for them. I'm very proud of myself and I hope my children are proud of me too. If I had the time and the money I would like to support the Learning Exchange, I would like to help other people in my situation just like other people have helped me.

This is a story I wrote. We had to look at a picture from a magazine and write a story about it.
It all started about eight and a half months ago. A young man with blonde hair, blue eyes, a perfect smile and a nice body was at the market. He bumped into a very beautiful slim blonde, with eyes of heaven. Damon quickly apologized. Destiny accepted his apology. They stood there for a few moments gazing into each other's eyes. Damon broke the silence and introduced himself and asked her name. He said he would like to make it up to her, for bumping into her. She said, "Sure, give me a call. My number is in the book." Then she was gone.
Two weeks went by and Damon was trying to find her. He couldn't look her up, because she forgot to tell him her last name.
Mean while, Destiny figured he didn't want to see her. She was depressed one day and went to the beach. She was sitting on a bench when he walked by. She didn't notice him, she was in a daze, but he noticed her. He said, "Destiny, is that you?" She looked up and there he was. Damon explained what happened and Destiny apologized. They exchanged numbers and left. That evening Damon called. They went to dinner.
Four months later they moved in together. Everything was perfect. They loved each other very much.
About four months after that, they went out one evening to dinner and a movie. After the movie they went to the beach were they found each other. They were laying in the sand close to the water, waves splashing and rolling up to them. Then out of the blue Damon said, "Destiny, you know I love you very much, right? Will you marry me?"
Destiny was speechless. She just gazed into his blue eyes". Finally she said "I love you too, and yes, I would love to be your wife."
One year after that, they were to be married.
