Story of the Week

November 5, 2001

This poem was written by Sherry Wereta, from Swan River, Manitoba. Sherry is a learner from the Swan River Adult Education Centre since September 2000. She likes to do about any type of craft. She is also into photography and likes to sing. One of Sherry's long-term projects at the Adult Education Centre was working on a Student Yearbook. When it was produced last year, it was the first of its kind in a literacy program.

The Whisper

by Sherry Wereta

The sweet whisper of the wind,
It’s all you need to hear.
To know they’re not far away,
They’re really very near.
They’re there to hear your thoughts,
Guide you through this life,
The joy, the happiness,
Especially the strife.

A gentle whisper
In your ear.
Listen very closely,
You really have to hear.
They tell you all the joyous things
That wait along the way,
Of children laughing,
Even debts you have to pay.

They’re always there to listen,
And whisper encouragement in your ear.
So pay attention very close,
I know that you will hear.

The sweet whisper of the wind,
Is all you need to hear,
To know your guardian angel,
Is actually very near.
