Prospects Literacy Association was established as a volunteer tutor program in 1980, by a group of individuals representing Edmonton Public Library, Alberta Vocational College, the YWCA, and Grant MacEwan College. From 1980 - 1997, they matched more than 4000 adults with volunteer tutors to develop reading, writing and math skills. In 1991 they became a registered charity. In 1993, they began to deliver a variety of family literacy programs to help parents support their children's literacy development. They have assisted more than 2500 families through these programs. Prospects offers adult programs as well as Family Literacy Programs.
