This week, we are featuring a story written by Molly Peters, from Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. Molly attended Community Headways in 1994-95. She then applied to Yellowquill College to take a G.E.D. Program. Molly is the mother of three young children. She is very proud of her older brother Aaron, who has just released another C.D.
Aaron Peters is a young native from the Long Plains Indian Reservation, a reserve south-west of Potage la Prairie. This young rising star released a light song album across Canada called "Unafraid".
The album was released on an Independent Label with a grant he got from the Long Plain Band Office. Aaron has recieved a lot of publicity since the release of his album. He has appeared on local T.V. shows such as the Sharing Circle, Marjorie Stevens, and MTN Entertainment.
Aaron also played for the Sakgeen Reserve where he opened up for Buffy Saint Marie, and other native artists like Tom Jackson and Shingoose. His songs have been played on local radio stations like 92 CITI - FM and Q94 FM.
His songs are about his life experience growing up in a foster home, along with his two younger sisters, relationships, and family life.
You can get his tape "Unafraid" at all HMV record stores around Winnipeg and at the Assiniboine Medicine Wheel at the Portage la Prairie Mall.
