Crystal Bright has been taking part in adult upgrading classes in a Community Academic Services Program (CASP), in Saint John, New Brunswick, since September, 1995. She wants to further her education and get the skills she needs, so that someday she can have her own business. Currently, she is concentrating on upgrading her math, English and spelling skills. Crystal is 24 years old and is expecting her first child.
I think education is important. I would like to see more programs so more people would be able to get their education that need it then they may be able to find good jobs after there programs are done. I have been out of school for a long time, and it is good to be getting my education so I can do something with my life. I would like to be a hairdresser because I love to cut hair. Maybe someday I could have my own shop. It would be nice to be my own boss. Programs like this are good to get into because you learn a lot. Some people don't get the opportunity like this to go into C.A.S.P. programs. Some people drop out of school and never go back.
Education is more important now than ever because you will not be able to get a good job without it or do anything in your life. It may take me two or three years to do what I want in my life. I think that a course I had taken in self - esteem helped me learn a lot about myself. It was a very interesting course. I went to work at the daycare center for two weeks and I learned a lot about how thinks are done.
