Story of the Week

February 10, 1997

The following story was written by Shirley Hawkins. Shirley started attending Community Headways in October 1994. Shirley is mentally challenged and is learning to read and write. She works with a tutor. Together they wrote her story which was inspired by one of the coldest winters we have had yet. When Shirley is not delivering papers, she enjoys bowling and is looking forward to going to camp this summer.

It Was So Cold...That My Sleigh Broke

by Shirley Hawkins

Last week when I was doing my papers my sleigh cracked. I noticed the crack on the bottom of my sleigh when I got home. The crack was about 12 inches long. I told Morely from S.A.M. and he took the sleigh home to fix it. He put a new board on it. I got another sleigh to use while Morely was fixing my old one. Now I have two sleighs. I think the sleigh cracked because of the cold weather we had last week.
