Story of the Week
March 30, 2009
This week, we have a story written by the Kamal, from Nanaimo, BC. Kamal is originally from India and has been learning English for two years. She attends the Multicultural Centre nine hours a week and literacy classes at Literacy Nanaimo for two hours a week. Kamal is enthusiastic and happy to be able to express herself more clearly.
My Village

My village is Aima Kizi. My state is Punjab. There are 500 people living there. My parents still live there. My father was a Police Inspector. Most people are farmers. They grow potatoes, corn, rice, sugar cane and vegetables.
Every one in the village has some animals. They have cows, buffalo, goats, chickens and horses.
After work people like to watch the television or play soccer. My village has a school for grades 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. After grade 5 the children cycle to another village for grade 6 to 10.
When people are sick they must go to the city to see the doctor. I left my village April 3rd, 1997. I flew to Vancouver then took the ferry to Nanaimo.
