Story of the Week

April 6, 2009

This week, we have 7 stories written by learners from Toronto, Ontario.   The students – Barb, Donna, Christopher, Justin, Gilson, Lindon and Estera - are all presently enrolled in the Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) program at the Centre for Community Learning and Development in Toronto.

Investing in My Future

by Lindon Dawkins

I am investing in myself for my future by coming to school everyday, in addition to doing my work in class and doing all my assignments. I am preparing myself for college right now. I am at CCL&D improving on my studies to go to college. I have good writing and listening skills.

I am also investing in my music because I love music and I am a reggae entertainer in Toronto, Canada.  I am putting a lot of effort in my education and my music. I have a new song out called Sufferation. I also have my own website where people can hear my music. In addition, I am working hard to become a great musician.

One of my goals is to go to college and take an apprenticeship program to become a plumber. If that does not work out then I will focus on my music and work full-time. It is important to me because I want to be successful in my work, and I want to have a bright future. I will be filthy rich, have my big house, and drive my own car. In addition, I will have my own shoes and my own clothes.
