Story of the Week

July 12, 2010

This week, we have a story written Iryna Sherstyuk, from Ottawa, Ontario. Iryna is enrolled in literacy classes at People, Words and Change, a one-on-one, Literacy and Essential Skills program for adults in Ottawa.

The Cottage

by Iryna Sherstyuk

Our friends encouraged us to split the costs of renting a cottage. They sent us photos and when we saw them, we agreed right away.

The last week of May, my son, husband and I went to the cottage. It is one hour and 45 minutes of driving to the Quebec side. When we came to the place our expectations were met. The cottage is located on a point of land. From the living room there is a view of the lake from opposite sides. If the weather is cold and windy we could go to the deck to hide from the wind and have some sun. And if you want to escape from the heat, just go to the other side of the cottage.

The water in the lake is so very clean you can see the bottom. But where it is very deep the water is dark. We went fishing on a pedal boat and I measured the deepness of the lake using a fishing line. It was 20 meters. Wow! It was scary.

It was good to be at the lake just to look at the water and relax. We definitely will go again.
