Story of the Week

February 17, 1997

The following story was written by Frank Froese who is an adult learner at the Pembina Valley Learning Centre in Winkler, Manitoba. He is trying for his grade 12, and enjoys drawing wildlife.

Owl

by Frank Froese

We can learn a lot from the wise old owl. The owl makes good use of its hearing because if the owl wouldn't listen very carefully, he would miss his opportunity for prey.

If people would listen to one another more, there would be more understanding and love in this world.

The owl moves in and takes over old nests that other birds have left behind.

In our society people tend to do a lot of wasting. If people would recycle more, we would have a cleaner environment.

The owl is also very protective of its young and will attack an intruder at once.

If people would stand up for their children, the children wouldn't grow up without self-esteem.
