Story of the Week

June 15, 2009

This week, we have a collection of 6 stories written by learners in Woodstock, Ontario. Joanne, Shelley, Joe, Liz, Scott, Rob, Mary, Sarah and Tom are all enrolled in literacy classes at the Gateway to Learning Program, a part of the Thames Valley District School Board. The students in the literacy class worked together to write stories and prepare photos and images for a 2009 calendar.

Torch Run 2008

by Scott

I have participated in the Torch Run in Woodstock for nine years. The Torch Run is an annual fundraising event for the Special Olympics Organization. I did the whole run from the police station to Boston Pizza. This year there were forty people in the race; volunteers, policemen and women and the athletes.

Five thousand dollars was raised from pledges. This money is used for uniforms, equipment and traveling to the games. I play softball, floor hockey and bowling for the Special Olympics. Walking helps me keep fit for this event.

I feel very happy about all our sponsors and other people that help the Special Olympics. I also feel very happy and proud to be part of the Torch Run. I am looking forward to next year.
